WHO AM I?

Hi! I'm Johann Potgieter...

In 1990 – My qualification in the field of electronics took me to a position with SASKOR. They had a name change since then. They are now Bernina SA. They are the sole importer of Bernina Products.

The use of electronic components in the sewing industry started in the 1980’s with basic motor speed controllers. Soon after that, mechanical parts became obsolete and made room for more electronics and today, the sewing industry mostly relies on electronics. My key role was in training on all supported products and to establish a training platform for technicians at the dealerships to do repairs. It would be impossible for the head office to deal with such a workload.

I left SASKOR with their blessing and was given the opportunity to do all the electronic repairs for SASKOR. This was the beginning of a new season and where it all started.

This became a good business and it was wonderful to be my own boss.

After the loss of my Dad at an early age I decided to move to Kroonstad where I saw a good business opportunity with the Bernina Welkom dealership as their technician. I continued to do the electronic repairs for SASKOR. Freestate Sewing Service was born.

Soon after this new move, I explored the industrial Sewing market and added it to my portfolio. Berzack Brothers became my chosen Supplier for the time being. Later, I added Singer products as the demand increased.

In 1995 the gold industry around Welkom took a plunge and the mines started closing down one after another and along with that also Bernina Welkom.

Briefly back in Johannesburg and not happy, I took a short break before moving to the Eastern Cape where I continued with the same business as – Dias Sewing Machine Service.

Here we are many years later – more experience –  still going strong.

NOW, I am very proud to be in the Brother camp as an Authorised and Accredited dealer and service provider.

I provide a professional and guaranteed service with no shortcuts taken. I can assist you with all the niggly little things and I will walk that extra mile with you to secure your satisfaction when you get down to sewing, overlocking or embroidery.
